Elisabeth (Liz) Snapp was born in 2004 in Baltimore, Maryland, and currently lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York. She has studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and Marist University, where she majored in art history. Snapp's academic focus centers on the systematic exclusion of marginalized communities from the Western art world. Growing up with African-American and Chinese roots, she has long been drawn to the stories of racialized and underrepresented communities. Through her work, Snapp explores themes of identity, belonging, and resistance, with trash as her primary medium. The conversion of discarded materials into art becomes an act of reclamation, asserting worth in what others disregard, and calling attention to the need for liberation through resistance and self-expression.
